how about becoming a nun for a day?

Growing numbers of stressed Japanese women who already have everything are now looking at having a Nun-For-A-Day experience, according to Sunday Mainichi (4/16).

Ryugen-ji, a Buddhist temple in Kyoto Prefecture's Yamashina, is running a program where women can get to know what it feels like to be a Buddhist nun.

The day long course begins at 9 a.m. with a dousing in purifying incense, a ritual shaving of the head (only a pretend scalping for the daytime folk), and goes through to 3:30 p.m., by which time the participant will be entitled to receive a diploma and an official Buddhist name.

Ryugen-ji holds the Nun-For-A-Day courses twice a month -- and has done so since 1980 -- with over 3,000 people having taken part so far.
