Kaiseki cuisine for the first time!

This past weekend one of our guests came in and we went to a very traditional Japanese restaurant (しの田) which came highly recommended by some housewives in the knitting club. Indeed it was superb! I have never had such delicately and carefully prepared Japanese food. Subtle tastes oozed out of every centimeter of fish...tempura fish bone was surprisingly yummy!

I had no idea before we went but found out it was kaiseki cuisine: authentic, carefully prepared foods based on seasonal ingredients and herbs. Pictured here are some pretty purple しそ, beefsteak herb's flowers.

Kaiseki is quite pricey so know the prices before you go! In Kyoto a kaiseki course will set you back 15,000yen (almost 150USD) at the minimum!
