SAITAMA, Japan -- Police have returned 5 million yen to a 35-year-old man after he hid it in a garbage bag at home and it was thrown out at a trash disposal area. "I put money I had withdrawn from a bank into the garbage bag to hide it from possible thieves," officers quoted the man from Saitama as saying. "But the bag was disposed of at the garbage collection site."

Three other people called the police station saying that they had left the bag at the garbage collection site. But police deemed that the 35-year-old company employee was the rightful owner because he knew specific details about the garbage collection site.

Officers said that the man burst into tears when he was returned the money and apologized for causing trouble to police. (Mainichi News)
