what is wrong with this apple?!

The first time I had an apple with apple honey, I was thrown off by the translucent apple flesh. What the heck?! Then I figured the apple cost 150 yen (about...1.30USD) and bit in...holy sweet! I figured for a rotten apple, it was not bad at all. Little did I know, what I had encountered was apple honey. In Japan some of the best apples contain it - substance in the center of certain apples that very much looks like and even said to taste like honey!

My mother-in-law bought her first such apple, cut it, and threw it out for fear it was a bad apple. I wonder when such a variety of apples came to be, if even she did not know it at that time...
