not a story of the ugly duckling

This is a picture from my latest favorite soap opera, 'busu no Hitomi koi ni shiteru.' Unlike American soaps, Japanese ones tend to last only 3 or so months for a total of 10-12 episodes. Which is refreshing and perfect for someone with a low attention span, like me. I am also kind of finicky and tend to tire easily of the same something over, and over again.

This story, based on a true story, is about a TV writer who unwittingly falls in love with the most unlikely candidate - a woman who is 'ugly.' I find the humor in the drama a bit obvious but all-the-while funny. It brings up a very good question - do we place too much emphasis on people's shells instead of what's inside?

In the end, no matter who you end up with, you will both get wrinkly and older. You better darn hope they have a good personality! Good looks are great but they too fade in time. Get together with someone who has a great personality, and you can at least be rest assured that it won't change as easily.
