Wednesday night dinner

Last night's dinner did not involve any of my so-called 'guinea pig' cooking, much to Hiro's relief. When I ate the dishes, I was so pleased that they tasted good. Apparently the look of surprise demonstrated on my face was not so reassuring. Each time I looked astonished by the good taste, Hiro yelled at me.

The recipes came from a variety of sources: Harumi's white fish carpaccio, some shiso and umeboshi scallop recipe I scavenged off the internet months ago, and a red miso (not pictured) sesame eggplant soup. None of them took much time, thank goodness. Just cutting and assembling, for the most part.

I highly recommend Harumi's cookbooks - or for vegetarians, Enlightened Japanese cooking...and Naomi Watanabe's bento book.
