don't cramp up in a Japanese pool
There is no way something like this should have been allowed to happen. God bless this poor girl's soul.

"FUJIMINO, Saitama -- Lifeguards without swimsuits or even the ability to swim were among those who worked at a local swimming pool where a young girl died after being sucked into a water pump inlet, former lifeguards have told the Mainichi."

To be fair, I went to Shikinejima island with some friends almost 4 years ago and the lifeguards were particularly active and more than adept at doing their job. They helped chase our runaway umbrella, dug a deep hole with a shovel (for the umbrella), and warned us not to set up so closely to the shore because tides were expected to change shortly. Every morning they zoomed past us on their cycles while hollering a chipper, "ohayo gozaimasuuuuu!"
What a shame such pool lifeguards have to tarnish the reputation of those lifeguards who take their work very seriously!
